I had formed the pleasure associated with attending a Chowbunga occasion this past weekend within my very own community. I discovered all of them via Twitter and had been immediately intrigued. Occasionally hitting the same bars, the same restaurant and not satisfying anyone new could get old. I wanted to do different things & broaden my social circle within my very own Astoria community. I applied to be an event critic and had been met with an extremely quick response from team. I registered easily enough as well as my friend Jess Robert downey and I made programs to head grab a fast bite and then head to the Feel’n Lucky Speakeasy occasion, a appear Speakeasy within Astoria. We were buzzed to the building after we all gave the secret password we had been emailed earlier that day time. As we arrived we were warmly greeted by the sponsor Amanda. Out jackets were taken and now we were shown to the bar area. Mixing drinks had been someone I recognized, Lauren from Raines Law Room. I felt immediately in great hands as her drinks and bartending skills are incredible. I ordered a delicious drink called the Aged Cuban and Jess a new Mexican Firing Squad and we both LOVED our drinks.

As we ventured out on to the balcony there is a photographer capturing the event as well as the Bronx Røv throwing road craps. We were young in a family where I learned to throw craps within my grandmother’s kitchen I had formed to join in. and so i threw just one down and hoped I didn’t move snake eyes! Sadly i lost but our host did pretty much. We created some new friends on the balcony and then headed back in to refill our drinks. We went into a friend of a friend who also lives in Astoria and talked with her and her roommate. Also i chatted with all the founders associated with Chowbunga and was thrilled by their friendly personas. I met as well as talked with several many other Astorians and got a few good restaurant recommendations, made a couple of business connections and the whole time obtained the enjoy tasty cocktails in the comforts of an intimate house party place. Once you get over the initial distress of being within a room of mainly strangers & you have a drink within you the chatting get easy. I’m the kind of individual who’ll talk to anybody about anything and so i love these kinds of occasions.

I believe Chowbunga is going to be quite successful not really just because of the exclusivity of the event but a lot more so of the intimate configurations. I didn’t really feel misplaced, people were incredibly friendly, it wasn’t the crowded bar where I was spending lots of money on watered down drinks, and the music was good. Plus it had not been snobby in it is exclusivity. Sometimes I can head into a bar in NY and really feel the pretentious vibe hit me like a heat wave. There wasn’t an ounce of that at the Feel’N Fortunate Speakeasy. It reminded me of home parties back home however with just a touch of NYC panache! I can’t wait around to attend their next event.
